Gary Sohmers

Gary Sohmers is known in the media and collecting world as the "King of Pop Culture." He produces, and hosts, the syndicated talk radio show "Calling All Collectors" and is a very popular, flamboyant appraiser of Toys, Collectibles and Memorabilia and on the hit PBS television program "The Antiques Roadshow." He has been featured guest on many other television and radio programs over the past 25 years, and quoted regularly in national print for his expert knowledge of the value and history of collectible objects. He speaks at historical societies, schools, libraries and comedy clubs, along with antiques shows and flea markets.

Gary attends and sells at numerous antiques and collectibles events each year buying and selling pop culture collectibles and memorabilia. His collecting bug began at age 8, when he began to wheel and deal his toys at a yard sale, or so his mother says, Gary developed a respect for collecting from his father's passion for campaign buttons.  From here he learned that historical study and revenue generation can be combined to make a hobby an industry.  He went from hustling toys to campaign buttons to record albums to everything that is "popular culture" from Mark Twain to The Simpsons' style and substance.

Having produced over 1000 musical concerts, featuring acts as diverse as Cab Calloway, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton and The Beastie Boys, to name a few, Gary has successfully been involved in many aspects of show business, including performing with his own rock & roll band WINDJAMMER in the 1970s and 1980s. His classic "rock-video heavy-music" spoof "Dinosaur Rock" features appearances by Godzilla and the images of the most famous and infamous of dinosaur rock musicians.

Gary produced over 100 Collectibles Extravaganza events featuring Cast Reunions of "Lost In Space" TV Show, "The Munsters," "My Three Sons," and the Kids from "Willie Wonka," along with cult favorites such as "Beatle" Pete Best, "Buffalo" Bob Smith, Tiny Tim and Lash LaRue.

"CALLING ALL COLLECTORS - The Gary Sohmers Radio Show," has returned to the airwaves, every Tuesday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM eastern time on WCAP 980 AM from Lowell, MA covering the Merrimac Valley and on the web live at www.980wcap.com

The program host and guests take callers with questions about stuff, and doing Gary's very popular and informative "PSYCHIC APPRAISALS" ("OK, you know I"m not "psychic," I just know the value of 100,000 useless objects," Gary says). Guests and special reports include auctioneers, museum curators and collectors   Gary's radio programs are driven by his subjects, interesting guests that include other "Antiques Roadshow" Appraisers and his whim of verbiage, as he espouses the values of collecting and the venues to satisfy the desires of collectors nationwide.
